ICL stands for Indian Cricket League. The ESSEL group headed by Subhash Chandra has taken a positive step towards the promotion of cricket in India and for improving the standards of Indian cricket in future. ICL cricket league is the result of this endeavor.
ICL cricket league is a Rs. 100 crore project, thus making it the richest cricket league in India. It is a platform for the young players in the country to show their talent, which otherwise goes wasted in the absence of proper guidance and training. Indian Cricket League aims to set up academies all throughout the nation to give training to these players.
ICL cricket league works on the three basic principles of discovery, diligence and display. It seeks to search out talented players from the length and breadth of the country and train them to become world class players. These players would then be given a chance to display their talent in the ICL matches.
Besides the young players, the ICL cricket league includes some reputed national and international players. The ICL has formed 6 teams as of now who would be competing with each other in the Twentry20 format matches of the ICL for the prize money of $1 million.
The ICL cricket league also has an executive board which consists of some of the most reputed players of the past. Kapil Dev is the chairman of the board while the other members are Kiran More, Tony Greig and Dean Jones.
The ICL cricket league is often seen as a threat to the autonomous body of BCCI. Only time will tell how much the ICL cricket league would be successful in taking Indian cricket to the pinnacle of success. |
